The bottles sprawl unheeded
The discarded valiant dead
Their sacrifice accepted
Sobriety has fled
The truth it surfaced briefly
But shrugged and went to bed.
Will you walk again beside me?
Will you tread the path I tread?
The wine it made me wordy
The truth when poured was red
I didn’t mean to speak them
But I meant the words I said.

Anyone wishing to read more of the wit, wisdom and jumbled musings of Tallis Steelyard could always read
As a reviewer commented, “This is a great collection of quirky little tales which are a spin-off from a series featuring Benor Dorffingil. Tallis is his friend, landlord, drinking companion and a jobbing poet. There are some lovely phrases used in here, as you would expect from a wordsmith like Tallis, who presents us with his pragmatic take on life. It’s an example of what happens when a minor character takes the reins and gallops off on his own. A great little book.”

Another graciously discarded banana skin of approval, my cup runneth over! I wish I’d thought to sneak in a book promo now 😉

Well obviously I’d do nothing that might sully the purity of my art, certainly not to the level of mentioning that some of Tallis’s work is available for the very reasonable price of $1.54 at http://www.amazon.com/Lambent-Dreams-Jim-Webster-ebook/dp/B01278WPWI . The thought would never enter my mind!

I’d buy it Jim, but unfortunately I already have (and reviewed it) 😀

Of course, I’d expect nothing less from a hominid of such wit and discernment

This made me smile. There is no doubt a grain of truth in this poem

Glad it produced a smile. But yes, somewhere, tucked deep behind maudlin reverie, there is doubtless some truth. In vino veritas may still hold true?
